Water at Lyric

I went to the Lyric theatre in Hammersmith to see a show called 'Water' with a few of VLP friends. Before going to see the show, I had looked up the information about the show otherwise it would have been difficult to understand, which I had never done before with Korean performance. It was a bit sad but I didn’t want to miss their message in the performance.

Anyway, the theatre was quite familiar as I had visited to look around it before but didn’t go into the building. The way leading to the performing place was really modern as the signs were written graphically and there were not delicate decorations. Those represent that the theatre is a place for contemporary theatre. However, the auditorium was really really classically designed, which was quite similar to other theatres in the West End.

About the performance, as a whole, I would say it was pretty similar to ‘A Disappearing Number’ by Complicite at the Barbican such as the minimised set and showing all the process of changing scenes. They even used same projection at the beginning. However, I found that the stories in ‘Water’ were quite clear to me whereas ‘A disappearing Number’ had rather complicated stories. Especially, the way of changing scenes was very clear and amazing so that I could follow the stories easily. I was also impressed by the actors performing different roles and changing the roles in a very short time. I believe that it was not possible to succeed without many experiments and practice for a long time. Although the general story was not being told dramatically, I liked it. Overall, I would say it was not fantastic but it was fairly good. If I add something, it was a little bit disappointing due to the similarities between the show and ‘A disappearing Number’ in the way of using technologies and story telling.
